The safety performance of the locomotive set a higher and stricter requirement for the locomotive speeding. Real-time monitoring of locomotive status is very necessary for improving the locomotive quality, ensure rail safety and achieving to repair locomotive on condition. So the paper that takes the factor into account, build the remote monitoring electric locomotive system based on GPRS.The paper takes the project, locomotive remote monitoring system by state for background, dose a comparison and discussion to electric locomotive real-time monitoring, wireless transmission of data, ground data management system, and other issues on the base of electric locomotive overhaul current situation, development and railway wireless communication technology. The paper gives state of the locomotive real-time monitoring system frame that includes locomotive status real-time vehicle detection system, ireless transmission system based on GPRS and round data analysis and management system.The paper designs signal detection circuits in the needs of SS4B electric locomotive condition monitoring. The signals include generator voltage, generator current, locomotive speed, the temperature of electric engine oil and water, engine speed, and so on. In the analysis of the characteristics of different means of communication, the paper designs wireless communication system based on GPRS. According to repairing on condition and need of protecting the safety of locomotive, the paper designs ground data analysis and management system. Finally, the system installed in the locomotive on trial run, and achieved good results.
