Multi-body system modeling technology is a key technology of Multi-bodysimulation platform. Modeling methods directly affect the simulation results. With thedevelopment of automotive industry, modeling methods on vehicle dynamic simulationand modeling simulation software also have a rapid development. Some dynamicsimulation software are good at simulation and analysis, but are weak in modeling, especially in model management, such as not supporting model reuse, low modelingefficiency, low maintainability. In view of the disadvantages of the current vehicledynamics simulation software in terms of high complexity and low readability, an opentemplate-based modeling technique for vehicle dynamics simulation is researched.First, the template technology is introduced. Based on the research about the vehiclemodeling, the vehicle dynamic template is researched. The definition and the structure aregiven. The organization rules are elaborated. XML is adopted as the describing languageof template. The flexibility, readability and extensibility of XML make the template easyto be costumed. A template expert system is designed, which make a foundation for thefurther application of template technology. On the issue of model generation, template based technology and case basedreasoning are integrated to generate a model instance. A large template and instancedatabase of hierarchical structure is formed by storing different instances with relativetemplates. Hierarchical retrieval algorithm is adopted, which has a high efficiency andaccuracy. After similar case retrieval, template replacement and modification, the finalmodel can be generated by apply the dataset to the template under template rules.Based on the technology above, the vehicle model is described and organized andmanaged with open template technology. The vehicle dynamic models were divided intosome relatively independent subsystems which were then abstracted as basic templates. The "basic template-structure template-template instantiation" architecture was used. The template was described by XML to realize the openness of the template. The templatebase and case base were established using tree structure. The model instance wasgenerated by the case-based reasoning (CBR) method. On this basis, a vehicle dynamicssimulation modeling software was developed and an example was built to illustrate theapplication of the technology.
