The river is a cradle of the urban civilization; it is also an epitome of a city. Theurban riverside is a unique space in the city, and it is also a region that reflects the regionalcharacters mostly. After the industry revolution, because of the increase of the land andpopulation, the riverside space has been occupied much, which has led to the waterdeterioration and made the riverside space a location that is disgusted. Nowadays, for theimproved technology and been regulated by industry, the urban transformation has becomean important topic in urban development. Therefore the riverside region has soon becomean important resource in the urban development. The urban reform has been become achange for the deploring of the riverside. Meanwhile, the urban riverside space hasbecome an important source and the most dynamic region. The social value, economicvalue and the landscape value has been re-cognizance.The target of this thesis is to exploring a design mode that matches the sustainabledevelopment in urban riverside landscape. It has much significance in respecting thenature process, maintaining the human revolution and ecology balance, promoting theintergrowth between human and nature. The thesis has chosen six typical examples fromNorth America, Europe and Asia, and then researched on them by the method ofcomparison. At last, I concluded all the contents symmetric by the way of pictures, tablesand texts, etc. The thesis talks about the sustainable urban riverside landscape design fromecological system restore history context maintain and public space explanation. The mainstrategies on ecological restoration has such as the function layout optimization, culturingthe biocoenosis and restoring the rebirth ability of the river itself; the method ormaintaining the urban history context include maintaining the history heritage, creatingsome spirit location that has the feeling of reorganization; In explanation of the publicspace, it includes creating some reforms that are diversity, and improving the instrument,expanding the water-love space, creating some locations that are more comfortable andhumanistic and promoting the development of the social and the nature harmoniously.
