As a new type of base isolation device, the process of the SBS modified bitumenisolation pad is simple and low cost. It is more suitable for the residential constructionswidely distributed in the towns and villages than the expensive laminated rubber bearing. It not only effectively reduces the seismic response of the large earthquake and greatlylowers the damage of structures, but also has important social and economic benefits. Thecontent of this thesis is the theoretical and experimental studies of the SBS modifiedbitumen isolation pad’s performance and isolation effect.First, referring to an engineering example, the thesis studies the performance tests ofthe SBS modified bitumen isolation pads of five specifications. And we get the verticalstiffness, the equivalent stiffness, the equivalent damping ratio, yield stiffness and yieldforce when the shear deformation is at100%and250%respectively. The results providereference data for the subsequent theoretical analysis. Then, the thesis introduces the theoretical methods used in the analysis of the SBSmodified bitumen isolation buildings’ seismic response. With the help of ETABS, a kindof finite element analysis software, we analyze a finite element model of the engineeringexample. Afterwards, we examine the isolation effects by comparing the structure’snatural cycle, shear force between floors, overturning moment of the isolated buildingwith non-isolated.Finally, we have a shaking table test of SBS isolation model and analyze the responseof the isolation model in three different seismic waves, as well as different accelerationpeaks, further verifying the isolation effect of the SBS modified bitumen isolation pad.
