Research On Safety Evaluation And Improvements Measures Of Interchange Ramp At-Grade Intersection Area

With the constant improvement and encryption of road network, the number ofat-grade intersection and traffic conflicts is increasing, which have brought a lot of trafficsafety issues.The intersection has advantages in improving traffic efficiency, reducingvehicle delay, reducing traffic conflicts and improving traffic safety. However, concernand consideration of the ramp at-grade intersection area in the interchange design isin-sufficient, which leads to the unreasonable design of interchange ramp at-gradeintersection area, uncoordinated running speed, small turning radius, insufficient sightdistance and unreasonable setting of traffic engineering facilities. It can reduce theoperational efficiency of freeway and traffic safety, effect the function display of freewayinterchange. This paper carried out a study on freeway interchange ramp at-gradeintersection safety assessment and improvement measures, the results have importantpractical significance.The paper firstly analyzed the effect of intersection geometry, traffic control andtraffic environment on the interchange ramp at-grade intersectiontraffic safety, and thenanalyzed the traffic characteristics of the interchange ramp at-grade intersection.and thenthe author established the safety evaluation system of interchange ramp at-gradeintersection on the basis of the analysis of the intersection safety assessment, andevaluated the safety of at-grade intersection in six areas, which including trafficcondition rationality of location and form of the intersection, coordination of runningspeed, turning radius, sight distance and traffic engineering facilities.Thirdly, the authordid a research about improvements of the recent and long-term safety improvement tofreeway interchange ramp at-grade intersection, and put forward safety improvements ofinterchange ramp at-grade intersection.In the last part of the paper, the author applied the research results of the safetyassessment and safety improvements of the interchange ramp at-grade intersectionto onefreeway, and the examples demonstrated the practicality of the research results.
