Study On Reasonable Driving Speed And Vehicle Density In The Road Tunnel

With the needs of china’s economic development, the transportation system has obtainedfast development. The road tunnel construction had made great progress at the meantime. Dueto fast growing rate of number and length of road tunnels, the modernize operationalmanagement for the road tunnel has become more and more important. So far, the trafficaccident in the road tunnel occurred frequently according to the statistics from traffic controldepartment. The main reason are vehicle speeding and not maintain safe distance headway.Vehicle speeding and safe distance headway are the most important reasons causingtraffic accidents in the tunnel, therefore many countries do a lot of research and managementin controlling reasonable speed and distance headway in order to improve the safety ofdriving.Refer to relevant research achievements at home and abroad, this article analysis therelationships between distance headway in the tunnel and many influencing factors, includingtraffic flow, driving speed and driving safety. Do contrast analysis between several differentmathematical model of distance headway and build a mathematical model based on distanceheadway in the tunnel. Combines with the safety level in the tunnel, puts forward thereasonable distance headway and driving speed under different safety levels.Finally, puts forward to road tunnel control programs based on reasonable driving speedand distance headway. On the condition of ensuring driving safety, these chosen driving speedand distance headway will give full play to road capacity and improve the management leveland ensure that benefits in the tunnel.
