Based on the electromagnetic wave technology, Non-Nuclear Density Gauge as anondestructive testing equipment appears in last few years, can rapidly measure the density ofasphalt concrete pavement for test of the uniformity, segregation and low density area of theasphalt pavement, which is the only one can be used to control the varieties of the asphaltconcrete pavement recently. As a non-nuclear (nondestructive) electromagnetic sensingequipment, its appearance is conform to the current of The Times. The United States SHRPresearch plan puts forward the QC (quality control)/QA (quality guarantee) system, whileNon-Nuclear Density Gauge undoubtedly is of great significance to improve asphaltpavement construction quality. At present, however, the density in domestic seedlessinstrument is still in the attempt to use phase, non-nuclear density spectrometer relatedresearch is more onefold.So our research group carried out the relevant research, as to make the Non-NuclearDensity Gauge developed in width and depth of the domestic research and application.Thestudy idea and main research content are following:(1)Summary of the density detection methods of asphalt concrete pavement, theprinciple of all kinds of test methods are analyzed, and the applicability of several detectionmethods are compared, this paper expounds the principle and system composition of theNon-Nuclear Density Gauge.(2)Based on the maxwell’s equations and electromagnetic wave equation theory,analyses the propagation and attenuation characteristics of the electromagnetic waves in theasphalt concrete pavement.(3)Introduce medium dielectric constant and expound medium polarization mechanism,summary dielectric experience model, explore the relationship of dielectric constant andmedium density, establish asphalt mixture density forecast model.(4)Take example by the domestic and foreign research methods, research the calibrationand test methods of the Non-Nuclear Density Gauge, theoretically and experimentallyanalysis on test factors of the Non-Nuclear Density Gauge, comparative analysis the calibration method of the Non-Nuclear Density Gauge, and explore the feasibility of thedensity instrument used for density test of asphalt concrete pavement, and puts forwardsuggestions of seedless density meter test.(5)Based on mathematical statistic method, build the judgment standards of segregationin view of Non-Nuclear Density Gauge electromagnetic density difference, and establish thedensity prediction model of asphalt concrete pavement, use Non-Nuclear Density Gauge torapidly and quantitatively detective density or density distribution rule of asphalt concretepavement, and carry out dynamic control and evaluation on construction process,makeNon-Nuclear Density Gauge a very good use for highway construction of the QC/QA control.This study summarized the Non-Nuclear Density Gauge to be used in multiple pavementconstruction, has an important meaning on QA/QC quality control of asphalt pavementconstruction, at the same time the study can be regarded as the design of the instrument andreference to the spread of engineering application.
