With the promotion of policies and the emergence of retarder market, endurance brakingdevice has aroused widespread attention and discussion. Vehicle plants、parts plants、expertsand passenger&freight transport enterprises take different views to endurance braking device,some support engine brake and some support retarder. Which kind of endurance brakingdevice is suitable for different vehicle become the focus of discussion. The paper analyzed theperformances of endurance braking devices by vehicle road test.In this paper exhaust brake and pouring water brake were tested on actual road, analyzedthe safety effect of exhaust brake and pouring water to vehicle on continuous downhill road;Jacobs engine brake was tested on level road and actual road, its braking performance and theadaptability of continuous downhill in mountainous express way were analyzed. The brakingcharacteristics of hydraulic retarders were analyzed. First proposed the dangerous of “blindarea of velocity” when Jacobs engine brake and hydraulic retarder work individually andanalyzed the necessity of Jacobs engine brake working together with hydraulic retarder. Inpaper final, endurance braking devices which are applicable to trucks and semi~trailertractors were discussed.The thesis work has practical guiding significance for the safety of vehicle driving oncontinuous downhill road, can provide market guidance to vehicle plants and parts plants,alsocan provide necessary reference views to truck users、 passenger&freight transportenterprises.
