It has been80years since the innovation of road roller, now the vibratory compactionhas become the most common and important link in the construction projects. With rapiddevelopment of the economic, the requirement of highway usefulness improved.Project practice shows that proceed a high standard compaction on pavement structure isan effective and cost-saving way to maintain the overall stability, improve the pavementstructure strength and bearing capacity. Compaction is a significant procedure, though it onlytakes a small proportion of total construction costs.Frist this paper made a detailed introduction about the general compaction theory ofasphalt mixture, compaction technology and its`development trend, analyzed the compositionof shear stress of different material.Second this paper discussed the mechanical properties of asphalt mixture. By analyzedthe test results of gyratory compaction, this paper made a quantitative analysis of the gyratorycompaction characteristics of asphalt mixture. All conclusions above come to sum up theasphalt mixture compaction characteristic change rule which is affected by the asphalt content,coarse and fine aggregate content and proportion of asphalt rubber paste. Discussed the testresults of mixture compaction condition under different vibration compaction parameters,conclusions above come to sum up the asphalt mixture compaction characteristics undervibration compaction.Finally compared gyratory compaction mechanism and vibration compaction mechanismwith the field compaction procedure, analyzed how the two compaction tests simulate thefield compaction procedure and which test simulates more accord with actual situation.
