As is known to all, a lot of6kV,10kV motors ware used in our country, auxiliary inverter in international was called medium voltage converter. But because we used to say these motors are high voltage motors, so we put the medium voltage inverter called the high voltage inverter, this paper also use the habit of domestic appellation. Domestic high voltage inverter mainly used cascade topology structure; it is made of a number of the same power unit of according to certain rules. In order to reduce the system stop due to all kinds of faults happened in the power unit, the power unit bypass operation technology has been widely used. Many companies also have their patent technology in this respect, the most outstanding is:the power unit of main loop IGBT bypass and self-recovery technology (patent number:200620035656). According to my collection of information, this technology only can be aimed at over-heating, over-voltage fault; because of the limits of the hardware and software, in the situation of the unit IGBT drive fault appearing, the system can’t enter the bypass operation state. To this, in case of IGBT drive fault situation, in order to achieve the purpose of power unit also can enter the bypass operation state, the research subject of this paper was to put forward.In this paper, the present development situation, the basic working principle and the bypass operation mode of the high voltage inverter are briefly introduced. In to the unit driver fault detection principle, analysis of causes, we believe that in some drive fault state, the system can enter the bypass operation state. For the realization of this function, we put forward the design of hardware and software solutions, including:the hardware improvement of unit driver board; the software and hardware improvements of unit controller board; the software improvement of system control board.For the safe and effective verification of the solutions, we designed a set of experiment equipment. The experiment equipment is composed of a control part and a driving part. Then, according to the function of experiment equipment, we put forward the experiment scheme based on the power unit controller and driver board, based on the power unit, based on the high voltage inverter experiment system. Finally, we use the experiment equipment to test, analysis and verification the software and hardware design scheme. And we got the conclusion:in the situation of the unit drive fault appearing, the system can enter the bypass operation state.
