The low-rise cold-formed thin-wall steel framing dwellings was evolved on the basis of the traditional wooden dwellings. As the traditional cold-formed steel shear walls have some obvious shortcomings, such as easily deformed and stiffness is small, usually we lined with lumbers at the connection site of stud and beam in order to enhancing the connectivity and rigidity. Based on the previous results of research of cold-formed steel frame shear wall, this paper carries out a new type of wood-steel composite frame shear wall which is constructed by LVL instead of cold-formed steel as the top、 bottom beams; Cold-formed steel as the studs and OSB for the panel.The connection of the panel and studs is mainly through the self-tapping screws, so the lateral resistance capacity of the frame shears walls is directly influenced by the performance of self-tapping screw connections and also the result of the self-tapping screw connections is a basic data for the finite element simulation of shear walls. Test research of the self-tapping screw connections on steel frame cold-formed shear wall is introduced in this paper, and the load-displacement curves and the average curves of the screw connections are analyzed. Also two polynomial curves is fitted with numerical method which provides the necessary data for the finite element analysis of the combination of cold-formed steel frame shear walls.In the research, a new loading setup is used to conduct monotonic and cyclic test for four groups of walls, which consider the distance between studs and the space of self-tapping screws to find out the differences of the lateral performance. Load-displacement curves, hysteresis property, shear strength, ultimate displacement, lateral displacement stiffness and energy dissipation were studied.At the last part of this paper, ANASYS software is used in the shear walls modeling to verify the behavior of shear walls.
