Tibet is a huge-geographical area in which road network density is relatively low. The bridges in plateau area are the throat framing through "heaven road "and the hope of Tibetan people towards the well-off. However, in the last two decades, with the increasing volume of traffic, the load of highway bridges is increasing, coupled with the general low design load level of bridges in Tibet and bridges used in a poor environment, leading to the bridge disease becoming increasingly prominent. The impact on the safety and durability of highway bridges in Tibet is complex compared to other regions, and there are many problems in the management and conservation of the old bridges for the personnel, funds and other reasons. Therefore, studying on the use situation of highway bridges in Tibet, analyzing the cause and mechanism of disease and establishing a typical bridge disease database management system on the trunk highway in Tibet can increase the bridge conservation level in Tibet and extend the bridge life, which not only has important realistic significance and practical value, but also can be conducive to enhancing the monitoring and strengthening level of the bridges in Tibet.Firstly, on the basis of the full study on existing data, setting up an investigation team that surveyed the distribution, service condition, operating environment of the existing bridges in Tibet and the trunk highway traffic widely and deep. And the results are in-depth analysis.Secondly, according to the field investigation results, studying on the disease and its causes of typical highway bridge in service in Tibet and summing up the type of disease. Analyzing the main mechanism of various diseases based on the influence of the special climate and environment in Tibet on the bridge service condition.Finally, through adopting B/S model framework, studying on the concept model and physical model of database, establishing the relation model between various entities, using network database-SQL Server2000. Asp.Net, and Microsoft Visual Studio2005and other technologies and tools, and integrating today’s popular web application development integration tools-Dream Weaver MX2004. achieving the typical trunk highway bridge disease database system in Tibet that can be applicable to all levels of management units. The system has the functions of data maintenance, information query, statistical analysis and output statements, completes database visual management by a set of graphics, attributes, images, text in one. All operations and functions are achieved through the network, which improves the accuracy of the data storage and the rate of the information query, and provides a basis of support decision to the bridge service condition and disease analysis for the bridge management department in Tibet. Meanwhile the system also has a strong expansibility and can make the application calls convenient.The establishment of the typical trunk highway bridge disease database in Tibet can change the behindhand bridge management and make it adapt to the requirements of the modern, large-scale, high-quality bridge maintenance and management. The establishment of modern bridge maintenance management information system will bring huge social and economic benefits for the transportation industry in Tibet.
