Composite insulators are insulation parts which are used to hung and sustainwires in transmission lines, reliable connections between fittings and mandrels at each end are directly related to the safe operation of transmission lines, due to the special location and role,the mechanical property is very important. However,during the service of composite insulators,which have to withstand the vibration load caused by the conductors, these dynamic loads are likely to lead to fatigue failure of composite insulators.The mechanical properties detection methods of composite insulators areremaining in the static load capacity to assess the performance under dynamic loading,which obviously is not convincing, recently, the first time fatigue failure of the composite insulator"V"strings happened in dintrict of the North China Power Grid, that is because of composite insulators withstanding tension and compression cycle stress during the service.The main tasks of this paper are as follows:1) gives the suffered load of an average distance of500m of500kV overhead line under the limit condition, According to that service conditions, complete the fatigue testing machine design;2)Compile fatigue test methods of’V’strings composite insulator, given meanings of the parameters which needde to test during the experiment;3) As a90-degree"V "series example, executing the fatigue test, compared to fatigue failure characteristics of composite insulators betw een laboratory conditions and the line conditions, given the similarities and differences, and reasons;4) Applying finite element software simulation crimped composite insulators,compared to the actual crimping process gives an accurate2D model, and gives90-degree""V" series estimate life...
