One of the most important system in the shield tunneling machine is hydraulic propulsion system. Based on the review of shield tunneling machine’s application prospect and development situation at home and abroad, we analysed the working principle of hydraulic propulsion system. Also we used AMESim which is hydraulic simulation software to model and simulate the system. The results of the simulation indicate that simple pressure control will cause flow fluctuation and simple flow control will cause pressure fluctuation. So we design a way of pressure and flow compound control to realize the closed-loop control of pressure and flow. Through this way pressure and flow could achieve stability, and we could control pressure and flow real-time. Based on this, we do a further study on hydraulic system and introduce deviation correction parameters of nonlinear PID controller which was modeled in Matlab/Simulink. Finally, we use the interface of AMESim and Matlab to co-simulate the hydraulic system. The results indicate that the nonlinear PID control is more accurate than that of the traditional PID. At the end of the paper, the fuzzy control theories was used in this system, and get the satisfactory results.
