Research On The Modern Mission Architectures Of Hunan Province

The modern history of China is very tortuous and intriguing. Modernarchitectures are witnesses and cultural carriers of the tortuous modern history. In thepast one hundred years, When the gospel of Christ was introduced into China, Thearchitectures built by foreign missionaries in China are the products of "eastwardspread of western culture " and " integration of western culture and Chinese culture".They were the precursors of being used Chinese national architectural form,theyalso brought a revival of Chinese classical culture. Modern missionary architecturesdid not only affect and change the Chinese architectural culture, more importantly, thecharacters who using these buildings and what had happened in them have great effecton the lifestyle and the concept of survival of Chinese people that had last forthousands of years.Mission architectures include hospitals, schools, churches, houses and othertypes of buildings that built by the church.After visiting the provincial Administrationof Cultural Heritage and the provincial archives, reading the Local Chronicles andstuding large amounts of information, I have arranged the spreading and constructionhistory of the modern church buildings in Hunan province to inform a overallcognitive about the mission architectures’ appearance，development, dying and theprotection and utilization situation. I have sorted out the first-hand information intoform about these buildings’ distribution, construction time, utilization status.and thenthrough researching, looking for and visiting these church buildings scattered on theHunan scale land in which I selected part of the typical buildings to analyze theirlayout, architectural style, detail and structure to explore the embodiment of culturalexchange in modern church buildings in Hunan.Hunan existing modern church buildings have a lot of value and significance insociology， history， art， emotion and so on. they are a very important part ofarchitectural heritage of Hunan province. This paper describes the social backgroundof the modern church building, as well as their impact on the social situation inmodern Hunan Province, hoping to get some inspiration for Hunan in the present time.Through analyzing the overall conservation status of Hunan’s modern buildings, it isobvious that the conservation status of the modern church building is worrying.Facing the problems of these existing buildings’ protection and utilization, I offered my own opinions on how to repair these modern building. Pay more attention to theprotection of modern architectures; pay more attention to the protection of historicaland cultural heritage, in order to develop a better future.
