With the development of society and progress of time, the psychologicaldemands of university students also changed accordingly. Teaching buildingfunction as an important circumstance for university students’ living and learningactivities, its architectural environment and space will have a important mutualityrelationship with college students and even further have a critical impact on theforming of their behaviour, habits, learning methods. Teaching Building, as theacademic communication and exchange place, shall not consider only to its basicfunction but also higher level demands of users in different aspects, the quality of itsdesign will have a direct influence on users. As a subject researching on interactionbetween human behaviour and environment, the Environmental Behaviour Sciencehas been highly regarded by designer nowadays, so the application of EnvironmentalBehaviour Science during teaching building design is quite necessary and significantfor the creation of a comfortable and pleasant teaching environment.Based on related environmental behavior theories, this thesis aims to research onthe new type holistic teaching building. Firstly, the background significance andresearch methods are set out. Then, it overviews the development of universitybuildings and related research about holistic teaching buildings. The characteristics ofthe type and existing problems are also summerized. Moreover, the relationshipbetween related environmental behavior theories and design of holistic teachingbuilding is discussed. The opinion that design significance needs to consider teachingbuilding users’ needs and behavior is made clear. Focusing on combination ofenvironmental behavior theories and research methods, with use conditions of twoselected different types of research use teaching buildings, it analyzes humanbehavior needs to different spaces of a teaching building and evironmental factorswhich impact the users, and further definitudes the design direction. After research onhuman psychological needs and environmental behavior of the teaching building,comined with teaching building instances at home and abroad, the overall trafficspace, teaching space and public space of holistic teaching buildings are analyzed.Traffic Space design should focus on ease of use, easy recognition and identification.Teaching space design should focus on physical environmental factors on thephysiological perception of the user to create a comfortable learning environment, and also on the needs of the user learning behavior and reasonable to the classroomarrangements for the design and teaching facilities. Public space design should focuson various types of activities and the behavioral characteristics of user’s demand,rational planning of space, especially for the encouragement of exchanges. Finally,the article forecasts the development of holistic university teaching building and alsoproposes several suggestions regarding to green eco-design strategies and postoccupancy evaluation design mode.
