Study the original dynamic system characteristics of generators to improve the static and dynamic stability of power system is significant. At present, the prime mover system in the power system dynamic simulation laboratory used the single-chip computer as control core, it exists control circuit hardware structure complex, poor general, slow response, poor simulation accuracy and other shortcomings. The paper research the new type of prime mover system simulator which used the new type of DSP (Digital Single Processing) micro controller as control core and the new method of joint digital-physical simulation can better overcome the shortcomings above-mentioned, and effectively enhance the installment’s simulation precision.The simulation mainly includes:the self-balancing characteristic and the unit inertia of the prime mover; the water hammer effect and the steam volume effect; the governor. The paper consulted a lot of literature on the power system simulation and summarized the prime move system simulator achievement have been, elaborated the generators prime mover system joint digital-physical simulation system of physical layout structure and technical route. The simulation system included physical simulation subsystem, digital simulation subsystem and host computer. The physical simulation subsystem use the modified DC motor simulation the prime mover, digital simulation subsystem use digital procedure simulation the governor and pipeline characteristics.Next, the paper summarizes the mathematical model of the each step of generator prime mover system, and puts forward the principle of simulation system, and construct the simulation flow diagram, through no-load given channel and the load matching factor, make the simulation model can truly reflect of the prime mover system features.The paper designed the simulation system hardware circuit, software programs function and flow chart, and man-machine interface. Hardware includes the main circuit and control circuit. Main circuit is the energy transition platform of the system, includes four parts as armature power supply circuit, the armature circuit protection, operating circuit and measurements show circuit. Digital control circuits according to its function are divided into power board, motherboard, measurements and protection board, pulse amplification board four modules, introduces the design principle and the component selection of each circuit module. Based on the discretization of the prime mover system mathematical model, the paper designed the function and flow chart of governor digital simulation program and system main program. Man-machine interface board realized by special single-chip board, it improved the display efficiency and reliability and saved the hardware and software resources of the DSP. The paper accomplished the man-machine interface and program design.Finally, the paper uses the Matlab simulation of the prime mover system’s mathematical model to confirm the simulator and the real motive system’s physical similarity and simulation accuracy. Through the simulation experiment, the paper studied the influence of each section’s parameter of the system on its static and dynamic characteristics, and explains the significance of prime mover system simulation of the generator.
