This paper studies the main content is failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) in single-phase smart meters, this is a part of system reliability of national key scientific and technological project, named smart electricity meters research on the key technology in2010, which start by North China Power Grid Company Electric energy measurement center. Project research from the multiple start, research a set of theory and practice system of reliability technology in smart meters. The research results can finish the technical preparations for choose the model of smart electricity meters, reliability evaluation, quality supervision, and improve reliability assessment and management of electricity information collection system for State Grid Corporation of China.FMEA is a commonly used method for reliability analysis, and widely used in industrial products manufacturing and made great effect now, but the application of electricity meters industry remains to be developed and promotion. Firstly, this paper introduced the the basic concept and implementation methods principle of FMEA. Secondly, in order to carry out smart meters FMEA research work, on the establishment of reliability analysis method, collection and statistics the amount of electricity meters data as the research material and technical support of North China in2009. Field data collection and statistics on electric energy meter failure modes and causes of systematically, the results can be used to improve the electric energy meter reliability measures and improve the management level. In order to highlight key points, and selected a typical electric energy meter as the statistical object, and an expanding collection of data amount range, to find the effects of electric energy meter reliability of critical components. Finally,this paper to this type of electric energy meter, for example the analysis, combined with the specific design and process completed FMEA analysis, find some potential problems and weak links, is easy to cause fault components, and before the field data to do comparative analysis. Through summing FMEA practical application effect of electric energy meter reliability evaluation is a great help, and has a good operability.
