Belt conveyor are already widely used in metallurgy, coal, chemical, docks, and otherindustries for its’ transmission of capacity and distances. Often occur a deviation orslippage failure in the conveyor belt during operation, so the belt should be installedvarious types of protective switches in order to improve the security of the belt conveyorbelt, also a system of real-time monitoring of the conveyor belt should be installed for theconvenience of the staff at the same time. Currently the majority of real-time monitoring isusing the RS-485BUS technology, in such long–distance transportation system CAN BUShas better real-time strong, reliability and enhanced error detection ability compared withRS-485BUS with the development of fieldbus technology and automation technology,soits widely used in automotive computer control systems as well as being embeddedindustrial control LAN. CANopen protocol is an international standard protocol based onCAN bus, it has become a common standard in Europe, and has been widely used in theautomotive industry, as well as the automation industry.Firstly, this paper analysis CAN bus and CANopen protocol, then design the CANBUS real-time network monitoring system based on CANopen protocal for the needing ofthis project. Papers completed the acquisition of a slave switch, CAN bus communicationhardware design, the design of the CAN repeater, the master station LCD menu screendesign and realization of CANopen protocol. Paper make modular package for the objectdictionary, various communications objects, and application objects of CANopenprotocal,also given a detailed flowchart for each module. The slave completed TPDOfunction, heartbeat packets function, NMT slavee function and LSS slave node functionbased on the CANopen protocal,while the master completed RPDO function, heartbeatpackets consumer function, NMT host functions as well as the LSS host function.CANopen protocol-based monitoring system is a reliable and real-time protectionswitch on the conveyor belt monitoring,also completed CANopen protocol between the communication of master and slave by experiments,so this paper reached thepredetermined design requirements.
