With the development of social economy and science and technology, the publictransportation has become an important system that affects the lifeblood of the nationaleconomy and the development of society and economy. However, the increasing trafficaccidents that accompany with this change also cause great loss to the safety of people’s lifeand development of economy. Abnormal tire pressure is a primary cause of traffic accidents,so one critical thing that needs to be done to avoid traffic accidents is to keep standard tirepressure and to check the abnormality of tires in time. The tire pressure monitoring system(TPMS) is mainly used for the real-time monitoring of tire pressure during travelling of thevehicle. It can give an alarm for excessive temperature of tires and air pressures higher orlower than the standard pressure.Basically, there are two types of TPMSs-Pressure-Sensor Based TPMS (PSB TPMS)and Wheel-Speed Based TPMS (WSB TPMS). This paper gave an introduction about theworking principle of PSB TPMS and WSB TPMS and a detailed comparative analysis aboutthe selection of transducers, microcontrollers (MCU), wireless RF transceiver chips, batteriesand liquid crystal displays according to the operating principles of PSB TPMS. Under thepromise of ensuring reliability, accuracy and service life, a complete system scheme isdesigned to realize real-time monitoring of pressure and temperature of vehicle tires based onhigh degree of integration of intelligent sensors and wireless transceiver chips in InfineonCompany.In addition, this paper also detailedly designed the hardware circuit and software processof the PSB TPMS in terms of theory, hardware selection and software design. The hardwarecircuit mainly includes two parts–tire monitoring module and host receiver module. The tiremonitoring module mainly consists of transducer of temperature and pressure, MCU and wireless transmission chips. It is used for real-time measuring of pressure and temperature oftires and transmitting the obtained data information. The host receiver module mainly consistsof MCU, wireless transmission chips and liquid crystal display. It is used for displaying thereceived data information about the tires. In addition, this paper proposed strategies forreducing energy consumption in various aspects and carries out analysis of energyconsumption. It also calculated the service life of TPMS system. Finally, the paper alsoanalyzed the drawbacks of the proposed designing scheme and predicted the developmenttendency of TPMS.
