With the continuing development of the economy, our vehicle’s storage is growing. Atthe same time, the development of transportation and construction of the infrastructuregives birth to the increasing sales of the heavy-duty vehicles which lead to the energyshortage. It is very crucial to improve the fuel efficiency of the heavy-duty vehicles at theprecondition of not hurting its dynamic property because the fuel consumption per unit ofthe heavy-duty vehicles is much larger than that of passenger cars.Based on our research team’s project ‘Matching, Optimization and Research of aheavy-duty dump truck’s powertrain’ with the cooperation of a company, this paper mainlytakes the vehicle’s fuel efficiency as the optimizing target, driving property as constraints tomatch and optimize the powertrain of a heavy-duty dump truck.Firstly, we introduced the domestic and oversea research state-of-art and methods onthe matching and optimization of the powertrain, then summarized the related evaluatingindex and criteria. Following, we determine the technical route and research content of thispaper with the reference of the company’s requirement. Also, all of our work andexperiments are carried out in strict accordance with the relevant national standards. The heavy-duty dump truck in research adopted the format of6×4double drivingaxles. We build up its Cruise model with the reference of its power transmission route, driving method and the parameters of each components provided by the company. Then thereal power performance and fuel efficiency of this truck were tested with the help of thecompany. Then we validate the model by comparing the test result and simulating resultwhich provided the simulation environment for the optimization and matching. We do the test refer to the transportation industry standard JT719-2008‘OperatingTrucks Fuel Consumption Limit and Measurement Method’. The result shows that itscomprehensive fuel consumption is27.9L/100km, equal to the first stage limitation of thatstandard, but can not meet the second stage requirement of25.1L/100km. So the optimizing potential is large. This paper determine the qualified solution by makingrandom combination from different transmissions and final drives, then figure out theengine’s best working point by theoretical analyze and the engine’s universal characteristicmap which can meet JT719-2008standard. Finally, the fuel consumption is reduced by11.22%.Finally, the C-WTVC cycling work condition file is edited according to the standardGB/T27840-2011‘Fuel consumption test methods for medium and heavy-duty commercialvehicles’. Then using the orthogonal testing and extreme difference analysis to optimizeand match the vehicle’s powertrain system, and finally the fuel consumption of C-WTVCcycle is reduced by11.75%, what’s more, the power performance requirement can also bemet.
