With the steady but rapid development of China’s economy and thedemands of construction, the ownership of heavy-duty dump truck is growingfast. The automotive cooling system has a remarkable impact on automotivefuel economy, dynamics, reliability, durability and ride comfort, and thetraditional heavy dump truck cooling system has low cooling efficiency andhigh energy consumption. The study of optimizing the air deflector structure andfan speed MAP enabl the cooling system to reduce power consumption on thepremise that engine and other components in the optimal operating temperaturerange, thereby reducing user’s cost, improving competitive ability in automobileindustry and bringing favorable economic and social benefit.In this paper, the numerical model for TY-1heavy-duty dump truck coolingsystem is built, and the performance of cooling system is studied, by utilizing1D-3D coupling simulation method. then the air deflector structure of coolingsystem is optimized, the fan speed’s MAP is built that provide basic parametersfor the automatic cooling management of fan speed, the main contents are asfollows:1) Using GT-SUITE and CFD software, both1D and3D numerical modelfor TY-1heavy duty dump truck cooling system are built. By comparison with experimental data, the model can be better to reproduce the actual operation ofheavy-duty dump truck cooling system.2) By using1D simulation method, the air deflector structure is studied.The result show that the radiator of cooling system inlet which with U-shapedair deflector is more uniform, comparing with the traditional air deflector, theairflow efficiency of cool system with U-shaped air deflector maximumimproves2.024%. By using1D-3D coupling simulation method, two coolingsystems’ heat dissipation characteristic are studied. The result show that thecooling efficiency of cool system with U-shaped air deflector is more efficientand the cooling constant maximum decrease2.81%.3) By using simulation method, the study on MAP of TY-1heavy-dutydump truck fan speed is carried out, the fan speed MAP is designed. The resultshow that vehicle speed, ambient temperature, engine speed and load are theinputs and cooling fan speed is the output. The relationship between inputs andoutput can be described using5equations. By using MATLAB software the fanspeed MAP which provides basic parameters for the automatic coolingmanagement is made for the sake of minimize the power consumption of thefan.
