With the domestic economic development, business activity reaches the peak. Many kinds of large-scale shopping center emerge in endlessly, which greatly enriches and satisfies people’s material and spiritual life. At the same time, the comprehensive shopping center becomes one of the main places of urban residents’ consumption. Life-style shopping center is the highest form in the process of shopping center development at present, which can greatly adapts to the urban life style and the new way of consumption. It is provided with the characteristics of the integration, experience. Also, the life-style shopping center is not only rich in business format, but also has the attractive and expressiveness open space in it. All of these forma unique advantage than a single retail formats.The thesis studies on the characteristics of the open space in life-style shopping center. The open space is a kind of emerging commercial space, which is not only the carrier of commercial activity, but also provides the communication, entertainment, leisure places and colorful life way. This paper classifies the open space according to some different theories after a lot of analysis of life-style shopping center. Based on the analysis of environmental behavior theory, the open space includes communication space, domain space, etc.; based on the theoretical of shopping center, the open space includes exhibition space, open space experience space, communication space, etc. The research is based on the studies of different actual cases by means of observation, questionnaire, interview and specimens methods of investigation, and the characters of the open spaces are analysed.Finally, through the research the writer summaries some significant characteristics of open space in life-style shopping center, including comfortable, interesting, display space, ornamental, thematic, etc. In addition, the significance of this research is for the future construction with important mspiration.
