Communications in Vehicular networks, such as Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) technologies, are becoming a fundamental platform for providing real-time access to safety and entertainment information. Now the Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) technology made by IEEE is the most advanced and perfect in DSRC standards. WAVE stack of protocol is composed of IEEE802.11p and IEEE1609protocol family. According to the seven layer network model of OSI, WAVE standards the way of communication in each layer, and defines a new way of connection and communication protocols, meanwhile it supports IPv6protocol also. However, the operation and performance of IP in802.11p/1609protocol family are still unclear as the WAVE standard guidelines for being IP compliant are rather minimal. With the IP mobility management, a research has been made on communications of IP-based applications in this thesis, and the main work includes following:(1) Introduced the new features of the IEEE802.1lp standard, analyzed the operating mechanism of the IEEE1609protocol family and WAVE stack of protocol also. Explain the differnt connection way between the traditional wireless networks and WAVE networks, in which, broadcasting WAVE Service Advertisement(WSA) to establish connection are described in detail. Then, analyse the shortage for infrastructure-based IP services in this type of connection.(2) Aiming at the limitations for the support of infrastructure-based IP applications in WAVE proposes the WAVE-PMIP framework.WAVE-PMIP defines the IP configuration for domain IP services and local IP services, add Proxy Mobile IPv6for mobility management scheme supported in WAVE network. WAVE-PMIP combines WSA messages and Neighbor Discovery messages, which has been adapted, in IPv6protocol, assigns and maintains IP address for vehicule; intend to enable a per-user IP prefix for accessing domain services and guaranteed the IP address uniqueness, guaranteeing seamless communications.(3) Using WSA messages trigger handoff in IP communications considers the distribution of mobile nodes and the infrastructure on road side, WAVE-PMIP can reduces signaling transmit in channels, and solves the IP-to-link-layer address translation. Moreover, alleviate possible congestion in the CCII by having the handoff signalling being transmitted only over the SCH.(4) Furthermore, an analytical model considering mobility, handoff delays, collisions, and channel conditions is developed for evaluating the performance of IP communications in WAVE. More simulations demonstrate the models are accuracy and the effcctiveness of WAVE,-PMIP in consuming IP-based services in the vehicular communication networks of the Internet of Vehicle.
