Being the most effective method of transportation demand management and optimizing the traffic structure. Park and Ride (P&R) has been widely applied in many big cities and begins to take effect. Altering the trip chain of private car travelers by P&R can partly solves the traffic congestion in downtown.Chengdu, a mono-centered city with high population densities, has suffered from traffic congestion caused both by the increasing amount of the vehicles and by the deficiency of relevant appliances, regulations and the lag of transportation planning. Traffic congestion has become the major social problem that keeps back the traffic modes of resident and city development. With the construction of the subway network. P&R become practical and effective to solve the congestion.Based on The Overall Planning of Chengdu2003-2020and planning of speedy rail network of communication lines, this paper gives full analysis on the P&R. It consists of five parts overall systematically:the analysis on construction and execution pre-condition and feasibility, the analysis on transferring of the private car travelers, the site testing of P&R facilities, the analysis of the scale forecasting as well as the design and operation of the P&R parking station.Altering the trip chain of private car travelers and providing better service in the P&R station are expected to realize the adaption from road to rail transit of the private car travelers. It can solve the congestion, pollution and energy consumption in downtown in consequence and for the government to refer to on administration.
