As an important interface to exchange information between driver and vehicle, dashboard is an essential part of each automotive, which provides operating parameters, fault, mileage and other information of automotive. The intuitive and aesthetic display of the dashboard can make the driving life comfortable, and the accuracy and reliability of the parameters transferred by the dashboard is the key of the safety driving. In recent years, with the continuous development of automotive electronics technology, the information displayed on the dashboards is increasing too, and the tranditional dashboard based on single color segment LCD cannot meet the demands for comfort, beauty and displaying of lots of information. With the widely using of color LCD screen, microelectronics, image processing and various kind of field bus communication technology, we can find the new products of microcontroller which integrated with color LCD driver module, image processing module, stepper motor driver module and various kind of field bus, making the dashboard grow fast to graphical, informational and intelligent direction.In this paper, the dashboard is mainly composed of engine rotation meter, car speed meter, engine oil meter, water temperature meter, fuel meter, battery’ power meter. Meanwhile there are many indicators and alarms, such as the left and right turning indicator, parking indicator, braking indicator, high beam indicator, seat belts indicator, lighting indicator, power generator indicator, oil pressure alarm, brake failure alarm, fuel alarm, water temperature alarm, engine problem indicator, etc. The central color LCD screen is used to display stalls status, door status, mileage information, reverse video, and navigation function, etc.The main technology of a modern color LCD dashboard includes GDC graphics processing and image display, stepper motor smooth driving, audio’signal synthesis, CAN bus information interaction, data acquisition and processing, etc. This paper will give a detailed exposition of the design and implementation of color LCD dashboard from these aspects of key technologies.
