Belt conveyors are the major equipments of bulk solids handing. They are mainly used in electric power, metallurgy, chemical industry, mining, coal, port, building material, grain and other fields. With the development of large-scale belt conveyor, although the international standard ISO5048which is always used at home is applicable for miniative belt conveyors, it is too conservative to design large-size belt conveyors; in addition, for the large numbers of conveyor parts and the enormous calculation process, when designing a conveyor, traditional design method calls a long design cycle, it couldn’t meet our demands.This paper compares the similarities and differences between CEMA and DIN22101, analyzes the design flow of CEMA and builds the structural arithmetic for software, the general belt conveyor design software is developed by Visual Basic6.0, and it approves the correctness of software through cases.In order to give facilities for users in the parts choosed and parameters inputed, this software makes the data input interface link with the conveyor data-base system. Inner resistance of material and resistance between belt and pullys are accurately computed by brace iterant way. Using VBA to compile exporting report forms function to export report forms in the form of Word. With this function, the users could anaphase disposal the calculation results. It is intuitionistic to realize stress situation of belt, through the stress curve diagrams which were ploted by computed stress about various behaviours, and the curve diagrams were made into pictures and output by Word.Through comparing equivalent simulative friction of accurate resistance calculation and selecting simulative friction of DIN22101, it is proved that DIN22101is too conservative and accurate resistance calculation accords with complex belt conveyor.The parameters which affect belt Indentation resistance pressure are analyzed, and the Indentation resistance pressure is mainly affected by roller load, reduction of roller load can make Indentation resistance pressure reduce; and reducing belt cover thickness, roller troughing angle and increasing roller diametral also can reduce Indentation resistance pressure; when temperature is low, Indentation resistance pressure will increase, so low-temperature is disadvantage of operating belt conveyor.
