Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) has occupied large market for its advantages of simple structure, low fuel consumption, strong power and low cost with the development of automobile industry. Traditional CVT uses hydraulic system such as pump, valve and hydraulic torque converter to control clamping force and transmission speed ratio, which makes the fuel consumption not as ideal as it can for hydraulic system’s low efficiency and high fault rate. EMCVT (Electronic Mechanical Continuously Variable Transmission) which uses metal belt as the key component adopts motor, gear and spring with low energy consumption, low cost and high reliability instead of hydraulic system to reach a more ideal fuel consumption.TCU, the control system of EMCVT is the key to make EMCVT and engine run suitedly. TCU’s target is to make a vehicle equipped EMCVT have strong power and ideal fuel consumption, and intelligence, comfort and stability when shifted. TCU’s control object is clutch and speed ratio. In fact, the object is clutch control motor and speed ratio control motor according to the principle of shifting. Test bed is needed for EMCVT’s test where engine, EMCVT and dynamometer are connected to be used for experiments. However, test bed experiment is not suit for long-term for its long test cycle, much needed test resource, high cost and risk. Hardware in the loop Simulation System (HILSS) as a platform for EMCVT’s real-time simulation experiment and environment for off-field debugging is presented to do test bed experiment in the lab.Hardware system and software system are included in HILSS. Hardware system is based on data acquisition card to read and generate signal, while software system is based on Lab VIEW test system and EMCVT’s math model that is based on its mechanical structure and principle of running. HILSS Software which is based on Lab VIEW is developed to do virtual test bed experiment and off-field debugging with the key of EMCVT’s math model which is based on Lab VIEW. During the process of experiment, HILSS generates kinds of signals which are given by sensors on EMCVT in the real test bed experiment to TCU, and then reads control signals from TCU, and lastly refreshes the signals generated by HILSS previously through EMCVT’s math model, which runs in HILSS monitoring software.
