More and more unbalanced loads, such as arc furnaces and tandem mills, are used, which will lead to the power system’s unbalance. The power system’s unbalance is a serious threaten to the power system security, moreover it will also reduce the power quality. The SVC can not only compensate the reactive power, but also dish the negative sequence current produced by the unbalance loads. It has very important significance to research SVC Faced to unbalanced load.This paper firstly introduces the classification and principle of SVC, through the contrast of compensation scope and control methods, chooses a suitable TCR+FC type SVC as the research object. Then discusses the basic compensation principles of unbalanced, and analyses asymmetric compensation algorithm based on symmetrical weight method. On this basis, adopts compensation algorithm based on the current reactive current, establishes TCR+FC type SVC system simulation model. Simulation results show that this algorithm is better than average power algorithm and reactive power algorithm in response speed compensation accuracy anti-jamming.Finally, this paper proposes hardware and software designs based on DSP. In hardware, DSP and CPLD are the cores of the controller, including circuits of inputting signal, filter circuit, signal conditioning circuit, phase lock circuit and guard circuit; in software, puts forward design process of signal acquisition, triggering angle, thyristor trigger system, and designs the PC monitor screen, which provides guidance significance for the next step of design.
