Because of the high temperature of arc, arc furnace is use to melting ore and metal. Large arc furnace would cause the grid disturbing seriously, it is an impact load which is dramatic change and asymmetric. In order to suppress voltage fluctuation and flicker, we need to balancing compensation quickly and reduce the pollution of negative sequence current. TCR Static Var Compensator could maintain its voltage does not change, and it could response quickly and operate frequently, it also could compensate every phase separately. So it can solve the problem of reactive power compensation which is caused by arc furnace.In this paper, we use the theory of instantaneous active power to analysis the voltage and current of load, and we base on the balance of principle to compensate each phase separately, which is caused by arc furnace. We use the symmetrical component method to find the equivalent admittance of every phase, and then use the rational interpolation method to convert the equivalent admittance into the trigger angle, achieve the aim of reactive power compensation quickly. We use the software of MATLAB to simulate the TCR+FC compensation system which is design by the method we just discuss, the results show that this device can response quickly and the effect of compensation is obviously. Based on the simulation results, this paper design the system of TCR+FC.
