Cantilever swallows tied arch bridges are half-through combined system arch bridges and mostly three inter-forms. They are combined bridges which take tie bar and truss arch for the main force component. Cantilever swallows tied arch bridges have novel structure and linear appearance characteristics. The combined system has the same mechanical properties of beam-bridge and arch bridge, at the same time, as its complex space, it also different from them. Therefore, it is the current pressing problem to study its static and dynamic characteristics. And with the continuous improvement of bridge construction methods and theoretical studies, bridge spans are also increasing rapidly, followed by the seismic design of these large span tied arch bridges. Earthquake disasters in recent years constantly remind us that the bridge seismic research has always been the top priority issue.Several theoretical calculation methods used in the analysis of seismic response of bridges were introduced in this paper, as a large-span tied arch bridge which has steel-box concrete girders and the main spans are188m in a city for the project instance, the large scale finite element bridge calculation software, MIDAS CIVIL was adopted to establish the space model of the whole bridge. The response spectrum analysis and time history analysis of the arch bridge were carried out, the effect of pile foundation on seismic response of large-span arch bridge and the effect of traveling wave on large-span tied arch bridge were analyzed. The research topics include:(1) The pile model and non-pile model of the whole large-span tied arch bridge were established, the vibration characteristics of the arch bridge are calculated, the effect of pile-soil interaction on the vibration characteristics, seismic internal forces of reaction and the displacement response of large-span tied arch bridge were also analyzed.(2) The straight forward earthquake response, the lateral and vertical earthquake response and the maximum seismic response of the earthquake combined effect of three directions were calculated by response spectrum analysis.(3) The linear dynamic time history analysis for large-span tied arch bridge was conducted and the result was compared with response spectrum analysis. The seismic response results of the arch bridge were obtained. The traveling wave effect on large-span tied arch bridge under non-uniform seismic was analyzed.
