As is known to all, today human beings rely on fossil fuel energy has been reduced gradually, a kind of new renewable energy becomes inevitable, the solar energy as a natural resource of clea、sustainable、inexhaustible, more and more get the favor of people and widely application, its application not only improves the ecological environment and reduces greenhouse gas emission, but also it has the advantage of energy conservation, emissions reduction and develops low carbon economy. The light from the sun radiation energy through the photovoltaic cells convert into electrical energy which stored in the battery, battery supply power to load again, intelligent controller is the core of container between their devices, the research of intelligent controller is very important in the whole photovoltaic lighting system.Photovoltaic lighting system is a kind of photovoltaic system of independent operation, it is composed of photovoltaic cells, battery, the intelligent controller and load. This paper firstly carry on the detailed analysis based on the characteristics of photovoltaic cells, the characteristics of the battery, the method of charge and discharge of the battery, introduces the strategy of the photovoltaic cells and the auxiliary charging and discharging of parallel adjustment power, it assure the overall design scheme of photovoltaic lighting system intelligent controller as the core of the single chip microcomputer of ATmega48. Intelligent controller try to control the input and output of the MOSFET switch through ATmega48’s Pulse Width Modulation channels of the high resolution PWM, so it can realize the scientific management of the charge and discharge of the battery.Secondly in view of the current intelligent controller lack of protection of the battery, it has been discussed in the functional requirements of the controller and the actual application, it completed the hardware and software design of the intelligent controller. According to the working states of the battery, taking ascension charger, fill continuously combined with different PWM method of occupies empty ratio to the charge of the battery, Acquisition of Wuhu local large amounts of experimental data, a program testing, access the experience data, and optimize the program. In order to use the electrical energy even more sufficient and reasonable, application of the infrared sensing technology.Finally according to the requirements of control and from the aspect of reliable safety of the actual operation, intelligent controller hardware circuit uses a standard modular design, in accordance with the realization of the function of different are respectively arranged at different positions, each module is relatively independent.After testing and debugging, all sorts of function of the intelligent controller of photovoltaic lighting system are already realized basically, and meet the technical index, the performance is stable in the actual application.
