| As the living quality standards rising, the public’s attention is more and more focusing onexperiencing and enjoying lives. Under such an atmosphere, comfortable public space isgetting more popular than ever. Meanwhile, the friendly refinement of the existing space hasbecome an important topic.As a buffer between indoors and outdoors, public space plays a crucial role insustainability, atmosphere regulation, lighting and environmental attribution. Its quality is notruled by any solo subjects, but four issues such as heat, sound, light and air. Although lots ofresearches about sustainability have already been done oversea, the refinement of friendlyspace is a relatively new topic. One example is the retail space has over emphasizedcustomers’ flow and economic attribution and ignored the places’ friendliness. In this realm,we already have many successful refine examples. Both space quality and economy incomeshave a great boost.We can use the successful examples as references. New technology is introduced andconsequently we can obtain numeric data to replace our arbitrary judgments. Therefore, newapproach can be achieved. To refine a public space, active and passive methods shall combinetogether. The objective is to create a balance between the existing and the new developed. Therefined public space shall be physically accessible and mentally public friendly.Based on a lot of preliminary work, to the reconstruction project of the GuangzhouInternational Textile City, some analysis has been done about the space. At the same time, alarge number of field measurements about the light environment and thermal environmenthave be done too. Then we get a deep understanding about the space comfort. Then using theECOTECT to simulate the space, and tries to analysis its public quality based on light andheat environment. As a result, a possible sunshade project is introduced. Finally, this articleprovides some guidance value suggestions for architects in the field of design and renovation. |
