Distribution network which is in the power system end has a direct impact on the the user’s quality of voltage. The reactive power compensation can improve the system voltage, improving power factor, reduce loss system. With the increasing of the size of the distribution network, social and the electric power enterprise itself with nets operation of reliability and economical efficiency requirements are more and more high. Reactive compensation is paid more and more attention to. Therefore, to determine reasonable compensation place and capacity, choose compensation mode is significant to the safe and economic operation of power grids.This paper reviewed the reactive power optimization model of, points out the shortcomings of the simplified gradient algorithm, and on this basis to improve them, put forward a new algorithm improved simplified gradient algorithm. According to different voltage grade of the characteristics of the similarities and differences between the power grid, and the difference of performance compensation methods, this paper puts forward a stratified thought based on the reactive power optimization scheme. For different voltage grade power network set up different optimization model, using the improved simplified gradient algorithm proposed solution, and through the other areas of reactive power compensation distribution network example shows the method is feasible.
