With the growing capacity of wind turbine as well as the expanded scale of wind farms, wind power has a growing effect on grid. Wind turbine has different characteristics from traditional thermal power unit and has low ability to adjust reactive. In addition, the power grid which wind farm access is relatively weak. The factors above make to wind farm hard to control the voltage of point of common coupling. In order to facilitate middle dispatch control reactive of wind farm, it is very necessary to study the ability of wind farm to control the voltage of point of common coupling through testing.Firstly, the background and advantages of wind power is simply analyzed. Under detailed analysis of the development and operation principle of permanent magnet wind turbine, grid-side control strategy and non-unit power factor running principle is studied. It is pointed out that the limited scope of reactive power control will affect the ultimate control effect. In order to achieve the best control effect, the reactive power control of wind turbine should be combined with the reactive power compensation device used in the wind farm.Secondly, the classification of SVC is introduced, including TSC and MCR. It lays emphasis on the analysis of basic principle, advantages and disadvantages of the TCR.Finally, in accordance with the relevant standards and documentation requirements, the regulation capability of reactive power of wind farms including the main equipment of the wind turbine base, a single wind turbine, and the TCR type SVC is studied by conducting a field trialThe wind farm’s capability of regulating voltage and voltage control strategy is studied, which will help the middle dispatch control reactive of wind farm.
