With the continuous development of the global economy and the acceleratedprogress of the Chinese urbanization, the environmental issues have become a strongimpact on our country’s economy and society. New energy and low-carbon economy,as the main content of the ecological economics, has indicated the direction ofChinese economic transformation. Chinese enterprises should take the initiative toadapt the economic transformation, and achieve enterprise development in thisprocess. Therefore, sustainable development strategy of ecological economy let manylarge enterprises move and build a new office area and living place for constructing aresource-saving and environmental-friendly business. Due to various reasons, theconstruction of company town is planned behind the comprehensive development ofthe enterprise, and it fails meeting the requirements of the growing cultural andecological civilization. This area has been rarely studied, and lots of issues have beenleft without theoretical proof. The layout plan of the space environment on companytown is still based on the level qualitative analysis.This paper is focused on the designing issues of space environment related tonew large-scale company town in the South, and it is based on the behavior of thestaff in the living space environment and the concept of ecological sustainabledevelopment. In order to explore the design strategy which meets the needs of thedevelopment for a modern company town, different aspects are discussed in thisarticle, such as the climate characteristics in the South, the selection of the location,the planning of the site, the layout of the function facilities, and the design of spaceelements, etc.This paper is divided into six chapters: In Chapter I-Introduction, the basic topicsare presented which explain the background, definitions of basic concepts, currentdomestic and international research status, the purpose, significance, methodologiesand frameworks of research in this area. In Chapter II, the design principles of theliving space environment are summarized by using comprehensive analysis. Theprinciples are discussed from the angles of analyzing the impact of urban design,human-environment-behavior and the spirit of place company town planning on urbanspace, the relationship between human behavior and the space environment, and thespirit of place inherent in space environment, respectively; In Chapter III, the geographical and climatic features in the South are described and analyzed, from theaspects of enterprise places planning and site selection, planning principles, the formof spatial layout, traffic organization inherent in space environment, and the greenlandscape layout, etc.; In Chapter IV, the elements of company town spaceenvironment and design strategies are explored. There is a new vision of the modernbusiness environment for company town design strategy through the elements in spaceenvironment, building space, square, green space, water, space, environment andfacilities, transitional space, etc; In Chapter V, design case of a large-scale companytown space environment in South are analyzed; Finally, a conclusion is drawn inChapter VI, which evaluates the research methods in the paper. It also provides somesustainable design strategies and new research methods for the living space plan anddesign of large-scale company town in the future.
