With the improvement of people living standard in the vast rural areas, the higherrequirements for the residence comfort will increase heating and air-conditioningfacilities leading to the huge growth of building energy consumption as well as CO2emission. Facing the increasingly serious energy crisis and environmental crisis, thereduction of low carbon emission is an important measure to keep pace with theglobal development trend, which carries out the sustainable development strategy,achieve the country’s energy plan goal and decrease the emission of greenhouse gases.Meanwhile，the residence with the characteristic of enormous quantity and boardareas is the subject of high-energy architecture. Therefore, the low carbon energysaving technology research will bring long-term economic and social benefits.This article firstly expounds the research background, the research significance,the research situation, research methods, then describes the related concept about thelow carbon building, and combines with the low carbon building. So, the author putsforward the concept of the hilly region low carbon dwellings. Then, the authoranalyzes and summaries some foreign masters works and low carbon building casewhich related to the houses in Hunan hilly, and drain the experience and lesson. Thispaper mainly analyzes the geographic and climatic conditions in Hunan hilly area, andwith regarding traditional dwelling as the inspection object, based on the traditionallocal-style dwelling houses location.
