Vacuum circuit breaker is widely used in medium voltage system for its advantageous arc extinguishing performance, long service life, low fire and explosion danger and environmental protection. The increase of contact gap causes the saturation characteristics of insulation strength between the contacts, which limits the development of single vacuum circuit breaker to higher voltage grade. However, vacuum circuit breaker with multi-break can make up for the weakness. Recent years, a new strategy—optic-controlled module based on the permanent magnetic actuator is proposed for the new vacuum circuit breaker with multi-break of higher voltage level. But, the power consumption of the self-supplying power source is large, when the input electric power is small or the power fail check lasts a long time, the optic-controlled module can’t work regularly. In response to the requirements for the reliability of the self-supplying power source and the circuit breaker power system when checked, the low power consumption design of self-supplying power source in optic-controlled vacuum circuit breaker is proposed in this paper.The structural components and operating principles of optic-controlled vacuum circuit breaker module is introduced in this paper, working process of the self-supply ing power source is analyzed, CT is optimal designed, and a wider scope of work is realized. Power distribution of capacitor charging module is also analyzed, the working consumption is decreased through the selection of circuits and components and the alteration of operation mode. The character of capacitor charging actuated by permanent magnetic is discussed; the best gap control strategy and low power consumption design of controller are obtained. If the power grid is power cut for two weeks, the self-supplying power source can still actuate the optic-controlled vacuum circuit breaker. At the same time, the design of controller is more intelligent, the reliability and the intellectuality of optic-controlled vacuum circuit breaker module are promoted.The effect of low power consumption is verified by the experiment, it decreases to one seven of the original data, the intelligence of the controller is also validated, and the EMC validation test is also passed, providing support for the practical applications.
