Rail transport plays an important role in a city’s public transportation system, its operation management is increasingly focusing on the quality of service to passengers. Depending on reliable network and multimedia technology, passenger information system announces general service information or emergency information to passengers. As an important part of passenger information system, multimedia platform offers an effective and efficient way to release passenger information.With the development and popularization of high-definition technology, multimedia platform on the train trends to a resolution ratio of1920×1080p, known as Full HD. What’s more, in order to improve the efficiency of information distribution and save comprehensive cost, one multimedia platform is required to broadcast multichannel videos. According to investigation, multichannel Full HD broadcasting is still not realized in passenger information system in China. Aiming at realizing mentioned above, an embedded digital video solution based on TMS320DM8168is presented in this thesis. Three channel1080p@60fps videos can be encoded or decoded in the form of H.264or MPEG-4, and the videos can be displayed through HDMI or VGA interface in local. Compressed video streams will be transmitted to passenger carriage over Ethernet.The design goals and requirements are put forward and different processor achitecrtures and chips are compared in overall scheme chapter. In hardware design chapter, schematic and PCB design are focused on. System hardware consists of minimum system module based on DM8168, video processing module, memory module, communication module and power module. In PCB design, stack choosing, component layout and key signal wiring are discussed. In software design chapter, U-Boot and Linux operation system are introduced and the start-up procedure is analyzed. Then the software development environment is established and U-Boot and kernel are transplanted. In the last chapter, the system is tested, realizing multichannel1080p video broadcasting and displaying, and the reliability of this system is verified by heat dry test and cold test.
