With the rapid development of power electronics, microelectronics technology as well as modern control theory, AC variable speed technology has become more sophisticated, which has greatly contributed to the development of ship electric propulsion and its expanding applications. Ship electric propulsion will guide the future development of ship.This paper analyzes its application prospect, based on the advantages of ship electric propulsion (high mobility, security and reliability as well as high degree of automation). Compared to the research and production of Ship Electric Propulsion abroad, that of China is still at a preliminary stage, which demands greater effort and dedication to this field. Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is the ideal choice for motor of ship electric propulsion device. Thus, research into PMSM control system and modeling and simulation of ship electric propulsion is of significance and value.At the beginning of this paper, a PMSM mathematical model is set up, on the foundation of which the PMSM Simulink simulation model is also set up. According to the PMSM vector control theory, a PMSM vector control simulation model is set up based on the Simulink, on the foundation of which a Fuzzy PI controller is designed and further applied to the speed control of the basic simulation model of PMSM Vector Control. After simulation experiment, detailed research into and comparison of the simulation results, the simulation model based on fuzzy controller is found to be of smaller speed overshoot and torque ripple. Then according to the PMSM direct torque control theory, this paper sets up a PMSM direct torque control simulation model based on the Simulink, on the foundation of which motor speed estimation simulation model is designed based on sensorless control theory. After simulation experiment, detailed research into and comparison of the simulation results, the simulation model based on MRAS control is found to be high accurate. At the end of the paper, on the foundation of PMSM control system modeling and simulation, a Simulink simulation model of Ship-Motor-Propeller made up of diesel-generator, ship low voltage load, PMSM, and propeller is set up which is based on the characteristics of the ship electric propulsion system and some parameters of one board ship as well. The simulation results indicate that PMSM possesses good low speed characteristic based on this model. The simulation results of Ship-Propeller model is conformed to the board ship.The simulation model established in this paper enriches the theory research of PMSM control system and ship electric propulsion system, and lays certain foundation on the improvement of ship electric propulsion control property.
