In our country, numerous hydropower stations have been built or under construction in thecondition of rich water resources. With the rapid developments of the automation equipments andcomputer technology, the automation level of the hydropower station increase day by day. As abasis for the hydropower station integrated automation, computer monitoring system has beenextensively used in most of hydropower stations. But there are some small rural hydropowerstations,especially those built before the80s,still adopt the conventional control and manualoperation without supports of automation equipments and related technologies, which can’t affordthe reliability, the stability and the economic of the station operation. And this situation evenaffect the economic efficiency and the development of hydropower station. Thus it is necessary totake a technical renovation of such hydropower station. Against the status quo, this paper takesXingfu hydropower station in Suihua north forest region as the object of study and designs acomputer monitoring system according to the actual operation situation, which is aimed to improvethe automation of the station and lay a foundation for the early realization of "unmanned on duty,few unattended" target.Base on the study of small hydropower station computer monitoring system at home andabroad, taking the design principle of advanced technology, economic and full use of electricalequipment, and this design makes analysis of choice, overall scheme design and experimentalverification for some system function, software design, device configuration and networkcommunication of Xingfu hydropower station computer monitoring system.Xingfu hydropower station computer monitoring system adopts the hierarchical distributedarchitecture including control level and scene control level. Control level is mainly responsible forreceiving superior scheduling command, controlling of scene control units and making it come trueto monitor and control the electrical devices and their operation state. It will make an idealdistribution of the rated power dispatching center given after economic allocation strategy, makesure about the number of generation groups startup and shutdown, optimize the put-into order of the units, and then distribute messages to the local control units using Fast Ethernet. For the fullyuse of the application software-configuration king version6.51of rich software modules from theAsia Control Company in Beijing, it provide monitoring and control of the operation is simple,clear and intuitive interface for operators. Because of the relatively simple devices in Xingfuhydropower station, we could reduce the cost of the monitoring and control system by increasingthe integration of some devices such as joint control. So the designed system adopts the PCC2005series programmable computer controller from B&R Company as the control core, and realizescontrol of speed and excitation functions of the hydro-generating unit by using integrated controldevice based on the original Xingfu hydropower electrical equipments. At the same time, part inpower regulation,the single neuron adaptive PID control rule are introduced to improve theintelligent level of power control in the local control units with the internal communicationsbetween devices using mature technology of CAN bus.Based on the existing conditions of the laboratory as an experiment platform, simulate andanalysis the experiments about the startup and shutdown of the monitoring and control system andthe power regulation units. It demonstrate the design proposal of the computer monitoring systemis basic feasible. Finally, objectively evaluation the monitoring system and outlook for its futuredevelopment is given.
