The elastic oil groove, as to be an important component, ensures high reliability for the generator sets through compensating for turbine thermal or mechanical deformation and absorbing all kinds of mechanical vibration. The structure stress of generator sets can be reduced and the service life prolonged. In order to grantee the reliable working of generator, the potential defect location of elastic oil groove were analyzed and the cause about the defect were studied in this article. After discussing the ultrasonic testing methods and techniques for this kind of defect, a ultrasonic testing system was been developedIn this paper, the solid model of elastic oil groove has been built by SOILDWORKS software, and force analysis has been down by adding load on the solid mode using ANSYS software. Through force analysis, we find it is possible that endurance crack will appear in the middle position of the elastic oil groove when it is working.After determining the defect position of elastic oil groove, an ultrasonic detection method for the defect position was studied. According to the structure characteristic of elastic oil groove, the defect can be test in the outside surface of oil groove by using shear angle probe. Through the experimental analysis and comparing,including different frequency, different K value and different wafer size of shear probe angle, a angle probe of shear wave, with5MHz frequency and K value of1, can get the highest detection sensitivity and met the testing require.According to the latent defect position of elastic oil groove and the technique of ultrasonic testing, an automatic ultrasonic testing system has been developed. The automatic testing system is consisted of mechanical part and control system. The mechanical part, including transmission mechanism, bearing mechanism and actuator, implements the scanning movement of ultrasonic testing probe. Open-loop system has been chosen for control system. The ultrasonic testing system can achieve the function of automatic testing.
