Along with the unceasing development of the national economy industry, the capacity of the power system is increasing, which makes the system when a short circuit occurs, the fault current is increasing. In order to maintain the safe operation of the system, improve the reliability of power supply and ensure the excellent quality of electric energy, we need to control the size of fault current within the safety range specified in a certain period of time. The economic and reasonable structure, fault current limiter (FCL) is an effective way to control the fault current. This paper mainly studies the structure characteristics of the economic series resonant FCL and its associated control and protection.Changing the system operation mode, adjust the network structure and the installation of fault current limiting equipment is the limit of traditional way. Although the three kinds of method can limit the fault current to be a certain extent, they have a negative impact on the economy of power system and flexibility. FCL can be an ideal equipment to limit short-circuit current, it is better to overcome the shortcomings of traditional technologies, and effectively reduces the short-circuit capacity of the grid. It improves high-voltage electrical equipment in dynamic stability and heat stability greatly, and reduces the investment of electrical equipments significantly. So the rational application of FCL plays a very important role in the construction of power grid in China.Series FCL devices work in power transmission lines. Establishment of the real-time online monitoring and control and protection system is the guarantee of the FCL safe operation.Through the control and protection system we can be more comprehensive to find the previous device fault of FCL. When a fault occurs in the circuit, FCL work with the Line automatic reclosing and trigger the corresponding control protection devices. So the research and design of a complete set of FCL on-line monitoring control and protection system, is the key to the safe and reliable operation of FCL.Based on the analysis of the economic FCL topology, this paper describes the devices of FCL in details with the action sequences, and makes further research and analysis of the structure characteristics and its control and protection characteristics of each component of FCL, and studies the devices maintenance in depth. Using the TI company DSP chip TMS320F2812as the main control protection component, and the DSP Cooperates with the micro controller ATmegal28to complete the control task of the FCL protecting. This article introduces the working process of the electronic transformer, merging unit, and focuses on the design of the work How of DSP and MCU design, including the dual-port RAM communication, DSP and peripheral circuit design, CAN communication, Ethernet transmission. Through the research of double CPU system composed of DSP and MCU, the system completes the task of control and protection system, and the design of the system hardware and software solutions.
