In southeastern Shandong, Ri Zhao City, owns the obvious advantages of geographical location. As the the only port city in west-shandong provincial economy, she is an ideal place for the development of international trade and the coastal economy. This project targeted at optimizing the structure of the regional road network, further improving the collection and distribution system, linking Rizhao airport. The project route length is of22.325Km, located in Rizhao City Economic and Technological Development Zone, within Donggang and Lanshan district, through Kuishan neighborhood offices of the Economic and Technological Development Zone and Houcun town of Donggang district.The main roads across the project conclude Shen-hai expressway (G15), Shugang expressway (S7801), G204andS222,etc..The main railways across conclude the Teng-Xin railway and Qing-Lian railway(in plan). And the major river across is Futuan RiverControl factors such as Yan-Shi Railway, Qing-Lian expressway, Shu-Gang expressway,Shen-Hai expressway and Fu Tuan River have been fully considered to conform to the planning route schemes; Serious consideration has been made about the linking of current roads and planning road network, to play the overall efficiency of the transport system; The towns along the planning economic layout have been taken full account of, and the relationship with the agriculture department, water conservancy, electric power properly handled; Route selection of terrain and environmental protection are emphasized, especially the rational use of favorable terrain, the flat, vertical, horizontal integrated design, focusing on ecological environment protection. Vertical section design of this project is mainly controlled by the railway clearance requirements, separation Interchange and channel clearance. In consider of several factors such as the terrain conditions, facilities settlement and combination of plat and vertical routes, coupled with lower embankment height, higher vertical alignment design indicators have been achieved. According to the specification requirements, more comprehensive traffic safety facilities such as traffic signs, markings, guardrail, sight induced, and protective net are installed.Subgrade design adheres to principles of stabilized durability, beautiful and natural conformation, resource conservation and economic rationality. Great importance has been put into the combination of subgrade drainage and irrigation ditches, of bridge design, water conservancy and surrounding environment,and of greenery and local natural conditions, to minimize the impact on the environment.As a whole, taking for example the road design of S613Shu-Gang highway West Extension project in RiZhao city, combining with the complexity of the situation of highway construction in China, highway design steps is elaborated. With flat and vertical sections combination, the highway clearance and railway overpass clear height requirements are met, when the planning route crosses over railways, beneath expressways and through water resource protection area. Experiences of complex high-level highway design could be accumulated from this design process.
