General-purpose finite element software can provide comprehensive finite element results, these results are generally stored by binary files. Users usually use readable files reading results indirectiy by compatible post-processor. But ANSYS readable files usually cantain particular file headers, the people who want to make a secondary development program must have a special treatment to these different file headers, so significant amount of time would be walst to handle a large-scale finite element model. Researching on binary result file about finite element software can curtain the time of finite element post-procesing.Welded structure is the main structure form of critical bearing members about locomotive and rolling stock. With the train developing toward to high-speed and overload, the structure strength of vehicle is the most significant to traffic safety. Light weight welding bogie frame is the key carrying components of locomotive vehicle, light weight bogie frame is box plates welded structure. Researching on Fatigue strength of welded structure has certain engineering significance and practical value.This paper based on the technology of ANSYS file operation, discrete data processing, OpenGL visualization, database access, hybrid programming and modular technology, developed the structure strength visualization system on locomotive and rolling stock. This system includes the following contents.(1) Based on ANSYS result file reading technology, a FORTRAN program is made to read the finite element information and results according to ANSYS result file. Using the results in local coordinate system to calculate stress components in global coordinate system, then calculate the Von_Mises stress and Principal stresses and their directions.(2) Based on hybrid programming technology, according to designing menus, dialog boxes and controls, this system builds interactive interface such as registry dialog, parameter input dialog and pathfinder dialog.(3) Based on database technology, Using ADO pattern to access Microsoft Access Database. It’s convenient to add, modify and delete data parameters.(4) The program transformed Multi-axail stress status to uniaxial stress based on ORE B12/RP17, calculated the maximum stress, minimum stress, mean stress and stress amplitude of the structure. According to the information of finite element model and Hunman-Computer interaction, using FORTRAN program Achieved weld automatic grading calculation in different materials, different kinds of element, different weld classes, evaluated the fatigue strength of structure based on Goodman curve about Haigh style, calculated the faituge safety factor and material utilization.(5) Based on OpenGL visualization teconology and finite element model information, the program generated the finite element model and the color map of fatigue results.(6) Based on ANSYS result file writing technology, the program wrote fatigue results to ANSYS result file in correct file format. Reading the modified result file, then, the color map of fatigue results could be display in ANSYS post-processor.This paper evaluated static strength and fatigue strength of bogie frame using shell element. The static strength and fatigue strength both satisfied design requirement. This system ingenious use of ANSYS result file, achived visualization of structure strength according to hybrid programming. The program improved post-processing efficiency, shortened computing cycles. It has certain practical value.
