Frame is one of the most critical parts of bogie,on which other components of the bogie frame are installed. It transfers traction force, braking force, lateral force and vertical force in the operation of the locomotive traction. As one of the most important necessary parts of mining locomotive, the bogie frame’s property has significant impact on running quality and safety of locomotive. Therefore, a higher requirement on the frame design has been put forward. Traditional design method cannot meet the requirements of bogie of railway vehicle design, such as short cycle, high performance and standardization. With the development of three-dimensional graphics technology and virtual prototype technology, parametric design has become an inevitable trend in applications of CAD technology.In order to enhance the research and development level of bogie frame, COM components technology is used to develop parametric design system of mining locomotive bogie frame in Visual Basic 6.0 programming environment and the SolidWorks Platform in this paper. This paper is completed based on database technology, modular technology,parametric technology and automatic assembly technology. Parametric design can not only improve the design quality and efficiency, but also provide the model parameters of structural design and strength analysis.The present situations of CAD application in the rolling stock fields are analyzed and then secondary development on SolidWorks 2012 are carried out to implement the parametric design of mining locomotive bogie frame supported by Visual Basic 6.0 in this paper. Firstly,parametric design on side beam, cross beam and end beam of the bogie frame separately are carried out, and the 2D engineering drawing is generated; Secondly, installing seat(fitting seat)of the bogie frame, including brake seat, axle-box bottom rod seat(axle box link), oil damper seat are designed; Thirdly, the database is used to manage the data which generated in the process of the bogie frame components design and commonly used parameters, and the interface program is employed to access the database; In addition, the frame are assembled.Assembling of frame is divided into side beam assembly, crossbeam assembly and the total frame assembly.At last, SolidWorks Simulation is used to establish finite element model of the bogie frame, and the static strength and the fatigue strength of the bogie frame is analyzed according to UIC 615-4 and TB/T2368-2005 standard. Seen from this paper, the strength of the bogie frame can satisfy the design standard.
