Due to its good overall performance and significant economic benefits, steel-concrete composite beam has been widely used in high-rise building and long-span bridge engineering. As a key component of the composite structure, shear connectors make the steel and the concrete work together even their elastic moduli are of great difference. Currently, commonly used shear connectors are made of metal, and this brings a more prominent problem of stress concentration. Moreover, in order to achieve full shearing connection, the amount of shear connectors must be increased which not only increases the dead load of the structure but also remarkably reduces the economic efficiency. Meanwhile some structures have to use partial shear connection which weakens the combined action for the reasons of configuration or others. New type of non-metallic shear connectors, the organic polymer shear connectors, can make the steel and concrete work together through the building structure adhesive. There are remarkable advantages such as uniformly forced, simple construction process, and the problem of stress concentration can be avoided effectively. In order to research the performance of organic polymer shear connectors;(1)static push-out tests are designed with consideration of the elastic moduli of the organic polymer, the adhesive thickness, and the interface treatment technics;(2)Based on the test results, the thesis derives the load-slip relationship formula and the ultimate bearing capacity formula;(3) Applied to the load-slip relationship formula for designing several kinds of composite beams with different forms of shear connectors;(4)By using the finite element software ANSYS, the load-deflection relationship, the slip distribution laws, the load-slip relationship and the stress results are compared. The results show that:organic polymer shear connectors can greatly reduce the deformation of composite beams in flexible working stage. It basically works as the full shearing connection. In addition, the test is only a preliminary study for the mechanical properties of organic polymer shear connectors. With the development of building structure adhesive, the organic polymer shear connectors will get more and more attention of civil engineers and be applied widely in the future.
