The mountain railway is a significant part of the national railway network. In recent years, the frequency of natural disasters in mountain areas is rising. Snow, debris flow, flood and earthquake etc. caused serious harm to mountain railway transport capacity and safety. When disaster strikes, it influences the mountain railway in wider range and causes more severe damages in comparing with other parts of the railway network. Therefore, it is of great realistic significance to research how to measure and assess the impact on mountain railway in time, and on the basis of which to supervise emergency rescue while the disaster occurs.Take mountain railways under the jurisdiction of Chengdu Railway Bureau for instance, this paper classifies railway disasters impact in mountainous areas through looking at types of natural disasters as well as the organizational characteristics of mountain railway transports. Moreover, the propagation law of disasters in mountain railways has been analyzed from a systematic and energy propagation view.This paper analyzes the impact of disaster on mountain railways from a network angle. Firstly it makes an analysis about the physical topological structure of mountain railway and its characteristics under the complex networks theory. In addition, it summarizes the changing laws of mountain railway physical network under catastrophe circumstances through analyzing key points of physical network and robustness. Secondly, this paper discusses impacts of disaster on mountain railway business network, from areas of train operation plan, the range of influences and losses of network transport capacity. Last but not least, considering the real situation of mountain railway network, this dissertation takes into account characteristics of physical and business networks to construct mountain railway super network model, also it elaborates the key points and invulnerability of mountain railway super network under disaster conditions.This article establishes the evaluation system of impact of disaster on mountain railway network. Under disaster circumstances, the influence is evaluated and ranked from network performances to economic losses. By this method, not only the impact of disaster could be measured from an operation management view, but the losses could be evaluated on a macro-economic angle.
