During China’s "Eleventh Five-Year" development period, following the "scientific development concept", the technology in heavy haul transport and rolling stocks progressed fleetly, achieving two goal—higher speed and heavy duty, which are very effective to raise transport efficiency. After upgrade, the speed of more than60million freight wagons reaches a level of120km/h, and the upgrade of general-purpose wagons axle load from21t to23t has been completed at present, for some type of coal gondola axle load has even reached25t.5000t-6000t freight trains are operated on current lines, and on Da-qin railway there are10000t, even20000t weight trains running. According to the development experience of many countries all over the world, it is the same trend that freight wagon capacity and axle load are rising constantly. However, the axle load level of railway in china is far away from the newest international heavy haul standard. Consequently, there is a long way which may take several years to catch the world level for china railway.Based on the reference of current domestic and foreign coal gondola developing actuality, in this paper, the author researches the design of a new coal gondola as following aspects:Firstly the various constraints that developing coal gondola of30t axle load needs to face are systematically analyzed, and it is concluded that wagon-tipping machines should been renewed, and the new railway line is applicable.Secondly based on the economic benefit of developing heavy goods vehicles, it expounds the question how to choose technical parameters.And then some key matters such as the oversea application trend, the typical failure of the current coal gondolas and lifecycle cost are analyzed, aimed at improving benefit and reducing life cycle cost.Subsequently based on the practice situation of the railway in this country, the general idea and designing goals of a new type of coal gondola are proposed, and the overall technical scheme is concluded.As the concept of reliability designing, it demonstrates the technical feasibility of the design in the end.The productions of the paper provide some valuable references on developing coal gondola of30t axle load, and promoting the overall level of China’s wagon designing technology.
