This paper begins from analysis of the transport cost of Railway Coal Transportation Corridor from West Inner Mongolia to Central China Area, combining with the study of the selection of transportation equipment type for the corridor, setting up the "Critical Running Distance(CRD)" mathematical model of the problem, and provides a rational theory basis for solve the problem of the operating range of 10000-ton train in the corridor collection system.First of all, the consitutes of railway transportation cost are analyzed. Through the analysis of the change rule of short-term transportation cost curve for the Railway Coal Transportation Corridor from West Inner Mongolia to Central China Area and the influence factors of railway transportation cost, the differences in terms of transportation cost of the two kinds of operation scheme was obvious, namely the collection system of the corridor operate 10 000-ton train only or 5 000-ton train only on this passageway collection system. Conclusions show that the transportation cost factors of the two kinds of operation scheme transportation cost are mainly embodied in the transportation equipment in the form of daily depreciation cost and the expenses for production staff wages in operating costs.Secondly, the type-selection of locomotive and freight cars were researched. Through the contrast analysis of the technical performance of alternative locomotive, the purchase costs and the operating costs, combining with the characteristics of the corridor railway lines, this paper puts forward adopting type HXD2 B electric locomotive to tow 50 00-ton train with single locomotive or tow 10 000-ton train with double locomotive and adopting type HXD2 electric locomotive to tow 10 000-ton train with single locomotive. This paper compares the technical performance and adaptability of alternative freight cars, through the analysis of Heavy Haul Railway freight cars application status in our country, and the conclusion is that adopting the C80 gondola car series at the beginning of the corridor was better.Finally, this paper starts with the critical value in the transport cost consumption of the two schemes and considers the travel time that represents the characterize of the distance between the origin-destination as the goal, throughing launching the analysis from trainman class number, average daily available freight cars and locomotives. According to analyzing and comparing the economy of the two schemes that operate 5 000-ton train only or 10 000-ton train only in the north side of DengHu in the Corridor, we present the corresponding cost function of each scheme that travel time between the origin-destination as independent variables, establishe a mathematical model and conclude that the critical travel time of the two schemes with the equivalent transport cost is 25.1 hours under the same volume, which provides a reasonable theoretical basis for the operation scope of the 10 000-ton train between each OD pairs in the north side of DengHu in the Corridor.
